Some landscapes have to be seen from the air to be truly understood. At a few hundred feet, Israel's coastlines, craters and mountains come together into one picture you cannot see from any point on the ground. Here are five routes we love flying most, and each one offers a completely different experience.

1. The Ramon Crater and the Negev

The world's largest erosion crater reveals its full power from the air: colorful rock walls, stone fields and endless desert silence. In the early morning or towards evening, the shadows turn the crater into a canvas of reds and golds.

2. The Dead Sea and Masada

Flying over the lowest point on Earth is an experience like no other: the cliffs of the Judean Desert, turquoise salt pools, and Masada rising above it all. From the air you can see the sea's receding shoreline and landscapes that change from year to year.

3. Around Jerusalem and the Judean Hills

A route that connects landscape and history: the green Judean Hills, forests and villages, with Jerusalem's skyline on the horizon. Especially moving in the afternoon, when golden light falls on the Jerusalem stone.

4. The Sea of Galilee, the Golan and the Galilee

Green, water and mountains in every direction: a flight over the Sea of Galilee reveals the Jordan Valley, the Golan cliffs and the Galilee landscapes in one wide picture. In winter and spring, when everything is in bloom, this is one of the most spectacular routes in the country.

5. The Coastline: from Tel Aviv to Rosh Hanikra

From the towers of Tel Aviv, past Haifa's port and the Carmel, to the white rocks and clear waters of Rosh Hanikra: a route that shows how varied a single coastline can be. Best around sunset, when the sun paints the sea gold.
